Are you ready for another unforgettable night? The music’s already blasting, and Ötkert is ready to show you how the coolest club parties. Ötkert Bistro is waiting for you with the hottest Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, and Trap hits! But that’s not all—listen to this! We’ve brought you an exclusive interview with POP, one of the Bistro’s resident DJs. Check it out and dive deeper into the world of DJs at Ötkert!

  1. What inspired you to start DJing, and how did you get your start in the industry?

I grew up with my dad’s two younger brothers, who felt more like big brothers than uncles, and they were both DJs. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that I seriously started playing. I was inspired by the girl I was seeing at the time, who is a DJ in Belgium. I’ve always loved music—I can’t even go a day without it. But the feeling of controlling the vibe of hundreds of people is what really keeps me going.

  1. What’s the most memorable event or gig you’ve ever played, and why?

Probably the first party I actually got paid for. It’s very special to me because it was organized by my best friend. We used to have parties with a bunch of Erasmus students from all over the world. I can also recall another party that was really special to me: in 2022, I played for L’Eternité at Zsiraf Pest during the summer. It’s memorable because it was the first time I played Afro House outside of a private event with my friends.

  1. What’s the most unusual request you’ve ever received from a guest?

Probably the time a tourist asked me to play an ABBA song, and I didn’t want to because it didn’t match the night’s vibe. He then offered me over 200 euros to play it.

  1. Do you have any pre-performance rituals? Are you superstitious?

Yes, haha. I have to listen to an aggressive song while I’m getting ready—something like a turn-up song or rock music, mostly from wrestlers (yes, I love wrestling). On my way to the event, I switch to a really calm song, usually Sade. After that, I’m ready for the night.

  1. What’s the one track that never fails to get the Ötkert crowd going?

They’re not my favorites, but I’d say ‘FE!N’ by Travis Scott and ‘Dior’ by Pop Smoke.

  1. What’s the most surprising place you’ve ever played a set?

Várkert Bazár.

  1. Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies outside of DJing?

I draw, but I never show my work.

  1. How do you stay updated with the latest music trends and discover new tracks?

Well, as I said before, I listen to music literally all the time, so sometimes I just put on a random playlist and listen to it on shuffle. Following certain pages on social media helps a lot, to be honest. But I believe that as DJs, part of our job is to help people discover songs that aren’t always trending but have great potential.

  1. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about DJing?

You can never satisfy everyone.

  1. If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I’d say Michael Jackson, because that’s MJ, and Future for sure.

  1. What’s your favorite DJ-related piece of equipment, and why?

My pendrive, because no pendrive, no party!

  1. How do you balance your personal life with the demands of being a DJ?

Well, it’s sometimes hard, but when you do something you enjoy, there’s always a way to make it fit into your life. Except during the summer, I usually only play on weekends, so during the week, I have time to focus on other aspects of my life. Sometimes the two can interfere, but it is what it is.

  1. What’s the funniest or most unexpected thing that’s happened to you while performing?

At this point, I’m not sure if it’s funny, but when I was still new to the Budapest scene, I used to play at a place called Blended Skybar. One night around 2 a.m., during prime time, everyone was enjoying their night, and because the crowd was so hyped, someone accidentally spilled a drink on the mixer. That accident caused the mixer to stop working, but people thought I had stopped the music on purpose, so they kept singing along until they realized something was wrong. We didn’t have time to change the mixer, so we ended the night with a Spotify playlist. At that moment, it felt really tragic because I was still introducing myself to the city, but over time, it became just another lesson learned.
