Curious about the journey of a quadruple platinum record producer & Dj? This time we’re bringing you an exclusive interview with our resident DJ, Danny Better, as he shares his career story and answers some exciting questions.

- What inspired you to become a DJ, and how did your career begin?
My journey into music started in an unexpected way. I first discovered music production when I was just 11 years old, and as I began creating electronic tracks, it naturally led me to DJing. One of my biggest inspirations was Avicii, whose unique style and ability to forge his own path motivated me to try something similar. From the start, I believed I could offer something a little different in the music scene.
By the time I was 14 or 15, my tracks were being released by international labels and even made it onto the top charts of electronic music platforms. I also worked as a ghost producer, creating songs for other artists that were released under their names. In 2015, I had the opportunity to produce a track for a Hungarian rap album, which went on to earn quadruple platinum status—something I’m incredibly proud of.
My career as a DJ really took off when I moved from my hometown to Budapest. I began by looking for chances to play at university events, and what started as small opportunities quickly grew. Within a few years, I was performing regularly at top-tier events, turning my passion into a full-time career. It’s been about six years now, and I still love every moment of it.

- How long have you been playing at Ötkert?
I could look at this in two ways. My very first gig at Ötkert was during a university faculty party, where I had a small opening slot. At the time, it felt like a huge milestone—thinking, “Am I really about to play at Ötkert?” I never imagined it would turn into something regular.
Then, in May 2021, I got a call from Ötkert inviting me to join their team as a DJ and play at their Saturday 90s Kids parties. I didn’t hesitate for a second—I said yes right away and couldn’t wait to get started. From there, everything just fell into place.
- What role does the crowd’s energy play during your sets?
I believe DJing has a strong psychological element, where the key is understanding and connecting with the audience’s vibe and energy. It’s always a challenge to choose the tracks that will bring the most enjoyment to the crowd. For me, every set feels like a mission to create the perfect mix of familiar favorites and new tracks that I believe will strike a chord with the audience.

- Do you have a favorite song? Which track do you think fires up the Ötkert crowd the most?
If I had to pick a track, there’s a standout memory from my first gig as a resident DJ at Ötkert. I played “Feel This Moment” by Pitbull and Christina Aguilera for the first time in my life, and at 3 a.m., the dance floor literally exploded with energy. It was such an incredible, euphoric moment. But if I had to choose a song that I always play at every party, it’s definitely “Samba De Janeiro,” with my own little twist. Whenever I drop that track, everyone immediately feels the real house party vibe of Ötkert.
- Have you ever received a gift from the crowd? Or do you have a particularly special memory with the audience?
When it comes to memorable gifts, one stands out—a gentleman once gave me two bottles of Dom Perignon. It was surreal, considering their value could buy a decent used car! Naturally, we celebrated and had an unforgettable night.
As for standout moments, one of my favorites was during last summer’s Formula 1 weekend. Being a huge F1 fan, I always look forward to these events. That night, the crowd was packed with Dutch F1 fans, and even after the party officially ended, around 300 of us stayed behind, chanting “MAX MAX MAX SUPEEER MAX MAX” together for what felt like the fifth time. It was an electric and unforgettable experience.

- What advice would you give to those just starting out as a DJ? What are the most important skills they need to develop?
For anyone starting out as a DJ, my advice is simple: just go for it. The most important skill is being able to read the crowd, which is more of a natural ability than something you can easily learn. The technical side, like mixing, is straightforward and can be picked up quickly, but knowing the right moments to make your moves takes years of practice—either at home or through smaller gigs. Jumping into big events too early can be risky without that foundation.
It’s also essential to focus on quality—always aim to play great music without compromise. And don’t underestimate the value of connections. Being active, meeting people, and building relationships are key. However, it’s just as important to work with people you genuinely enjoy collaborating with. If there’s no chemistry with a promoter or venue, the project might not last, and it’s better to step away early in those cases.
- What has been the most special venue you’ve performed at, and why was this experience so unique for you?
One of the most special venues I’ve performed at was a student festival in my hometown, which is the largest of its kind in the country. This year, I had the chance to play there for the second time, in front of thousands of high school students gathered in the main square. It was a unique experience because, 10 years ago, I was part of that same crowd, enjoying the festival just like they were. Being invited back as a headliner felt incredibly meaningful, bringing back so many great memories while creating new ones from the other side of the stage.
- What’s your favorite playlist on Spotify?
One of my favorite playlists on Spotify is called “mp3 player.” I created it a few years ago, and it’s filled with the songs I used to listen to on my 128 MB MP3 player when I was younger. I love revisiting this playlist whenever I want to feel nostalgic. When I DJ at 90s-themed parties, I try to capture that same nostalgic vibe and bring those memories to the crowd as well.
