Behind the Decks: Meet DJ Ziad!

Are you into the world of HipHop, Rap, Trap and Afro Beats? Then we have good news for you! Every Friday and Saturday at Ötkert Bistro, we have the coolest HipHop parties for you.

And check this out! We’ve got a special interview with one of our favourite DJs Ziad, who answered some questions for us.  You can meet Ziad not only on weekends, but also at Taste parties by Royal Event Budapest on every Wednesday. Come and find out who makes the Ötkert nights so special!

  1. What is your nationality?

My parents are Lebanese, but I was born here in Hungary.

  1. Do you remember the very first track you played as a DJ? If so, how did it feel?

I played “Dior” by Pop Smoke. When it came out, it was the first track that, when I played it, people knew it was me DJing.

  1. Have you ever had a gig where you had to improvise due to a technical problem? How did you handle it?

There have been many times when one side of the DJ booth died, but there’s an effect that allows you to loop the previous track. However, between two transitions, you have to pray to the technician to fix it.

  1. What role does the crowd’s energy play during your performance?

It’s why I enjoy doing it. If I see that they’re having a good time, it motivates me.

  1. Is there a genre you would never try? Why?

I would never say never, but there are some genres that are farther from me. Hard techno is one of those.

  1. Have you ever received a gift from the audience? Or do you have a particularly special memory with the crowd?

Money.😆 But what I appreciate the most are the compliments when they tell me they’re enjoying the party.

  1. What’s the one track you always take with you to every gig, and why?

I can’t name just one, but there are a few essentials that can’t be left out because of the crowd.

  1. Are you superstitious? Do you have a pre-show routine?

I used to be, but now I feel at home in the DJ booth.

  1. Do you have any advice for those who want to start DJing?

You have to learn to read people, to know what to play for them in the moment. I think character and appearance also matter a lot, but first and foremost, you need to learn how to mix two tracks.

  1. What’s your favorite playlist on Spotify?

Obviously, my own.🤷🏾‍♂️

  1. How long have you been playing at Ötkert?

I can’t say exactly, but my first gig was about 3 years ago.

Are you ready to be part of the experience? We’re waiting for you every Friday and Saturday night at the Ötkert Bistro, where the music and atmosphere never lets you down!
